[sap-career] Need Help in Choosing SAP Course

Question from rabraham on Jan 18 at 12:21 AM
Greetings,
I work for a MNC in Kuwait as system admin in an ECC 6.00 environment. I have done my degree in B.Sc. Computer Science & completed MCP as well. I had started my career in system support level in Warehouse Operations & have very good understanding of the retail & industrial Warehousing + Shipping Operations (7 years).
Now I want to concentrate more on a SAP based job like BI analyst or want to do a course in MM module. Kindly welcome all your advices regarding the course I should take.

Regards,

Rony

RE:[sap-career] What are the Prerequisites of a Career in SAP BI?

Reply from Typewriter on Jan 17 at 11:36 PM
Hi Roy,

I think your response is a "severe" one! :)

Obviously the thread-owner could have formulated his post in a better, clearer and more structured manner.
Also he/she could have done some initial "research" w.r.t. SAP modules and his fit vis-a-vis functional or technical side.

Having said the above, the presentation of his/her post could be a matter of "foreign" language. It could also be that at an entry - to SAP - stage, one might try to get an overview of multiple possibilities; "across the board".

Rupendra,

As a SAP consultant you would HAVE TO be very clear in your communication.

Your subject asks about pre-requisites of BI. But your post contains questions about ABAP and MM.

Please re-write your query taking in to consideration Roy's feedback and my suggestions.

Being clear in you communication shall definitely help you - both now and in the future.

Good luck!

Subject: What are the Prerequisites of a Career in SAP BI?

Your questions are so vague it is impossible to give you a clear
answer except to say that you obviously have no passion for a
particular module because you are employing a sort of scattergun
approach. That suggests to me that you are only attracted by the
money you think can be earn as an SAP consultant. However you
first need to learn that what a SAP consultant sells is expertise
and that is what earns him or her the big money. Now, can you call
yourself an expert in any area? If the answer is yes, then that is
the area to concentrate on. If the answer is no, you should be
planning to acquire expert status in an area of your choice
determined by whatever you feel passionately about. When you have
expert status come back here and we can tell you how to become a
consultant.

Regards,

Roy

Dear NJ:

I confirm the receipt of your reply letter below.

As you state that you are aware of the situation and want to prepare yourself for a rewarding career with SAP FICO; you should proceed as soon as it is possible to you. Please do not forget that the book knowledge is only one crucial part but not the most decisive element of the requirement of the $100K plus position which you are talking about. On the other hand, I have no doubt that you will get there in a not too-far-away future.

My best wishes to you and the success awaits you!

Regards,

Viet Tran

I have a double bachelors in Accounting and Finance and have been working as an Accountant for an IT firm for 3 years now. I have a good understanding of the Acct & Fina principals as well as very good knowledge of the whole business process.

I have been thinking of making a switch to the IT field preferably SAP FICO. The earning potential seems very attractive. I know few people who have done the same are now making over 100K just with couple of years of experience.

Can someone please give suggestions and guide me in the right direction? Also if you know a good SAP training center in Houston, TX please recommend it also.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards,

Dear NJ:

The information that you have currently is correct, regarding the earning potential as SAP FICO. At the same time, you should not ignore a large number of direct warnings given on this forum about the real chance to get a job offer unless the applicant is a capable one who is worth the amount of money that you are expecting in your planning.

It would be a good decision to contact, at your earliest convenience, SAP in Philadelphia for your education and training needs and/or to obtain an in-official report about the reputation of the business unit(s), including the one(s) on the sector of training in the local area of your choosing. Do not expect that the report or recommendation of SAP is clear in the chosen language because of potentially legal liability. You must be able to read all the pieces of information between the written lines to protect your interest.

Should you have specific information needs, you are welcome to return to this forum.

Regards,

Viet Tran

Re: [sap-career] Teaching SAP SD

Hi Typewriter,

You are as always, welcome!
Well, I guess I am not the right person to guide an experience pro like you
in this matter. But I can tell you what I do.

I visit SAP help site look for industry solutions docs, delta documents
(ehp4 vis-e-vis ehp5) etc.
Look for integration document (between modules).

I have a suggestion. You should NOT hijack someone else's thread.
This leads to confusion and means that nobody gets the answers they
want.
