Hi, MM and SD are two different things and when you consider the domain knowledge its completely different field and when you are in your field your previous experience can be counted. In case SAP domain knowledge is very important which help you to understand how sap actually works. My advice to learn SAP - SD or try to go through some good company like a production division (with SAP implemented ) and work in purchase department and then you can do the configuration.
