Long term you may be better off to stay in mainframes rather than move to SAP. Mainframes, despite common 'wisdom' of circa 1990 that they would be gone are still going strong 20 years later. There are now fewer and fewer mainframe gurus and will be less in future. The 'big time data processing' is still done via mainframes. Unless you are unhappy for some reasons doing mainframe stuff, I would not move. The grass is NOT greener on the SAP side, mainly because the Indians (as a group) sell themselves too cheaply refusing to realize that they CAN command European and American wage levels if they would just try. Either way, mainframe or SAP you will do fine, there is always more work that needs doing. Experience is always better than courses/certificates/titles IMO so if you do move the advice about on the job training above is the best.

I spent 10 years doing COBOL before I moved into SAP. There was a company implementing SAP and I had experience in the system that they were converting away from. They needed someone to write extract programs from the old system and they trained me in ABAP to load data into the new system. Never let anyone tell you that you do not have experience, we all are beginners at some point. If I can make the transition anyone can. | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author.
