Hi Savitha,

I am agree with David. In india is totally different someone can learn SAP in
any module on related to domain experience in particular related field. There
are three way enter into SAP field in India
1) Who have domain knowledge related to that SAP module.
2) Who have domain knowledge related to that SAP module as well as
certification in that module.
3) Who have domain knowledge related to that SAP module do the SAP course
from local institute, do live project from any company and show the fake SAP
experience minimum 2 year , prepare for interview

Roy, there seems to be a wide-ranging misunderstanding among many of those who post here about what a consultant IS and is required to know and be able to do. To the extent that I wonder if the term is being used differently in India, from where most of the posts seem to originate, and anyone who can go into a firm to offer some technical advice to users, fix a couple of issues and do some basic configuration can call themselves a consultant, even though that isn't how such a role would be considered in Europe and the US. There are also people who post who have a relevant business degree who seem to think that they can do a course in some module of SAP and become a consultant.

Perhaps it might be useful to equate this to the medical profession. To become a doctor you study, take the relevant exams, and when qualified become a junior doctor in a hospital or junior partner in a general practice, under the supervision and guidance of more experienced and senior people. Only after many years of further study and gaining practical experience would you be allowed to work alone as, for example, a surgeon, and after many more years of practice to be qualified as a consultant.

Someone who has gained some practical business experience in a relevant business function and completed a properly structured and taught SAP course might be able to operate as a technical contractor in that aspect of SAP, But It is only at that same level of experience, knowledge and skill gained through learning and doing under supervision, seeing how a business works, what goes wrong and how to do or put it right, and learning the extra involved with the software, as is needed to become a medical Consultant that you can become accepted and employed as an SAP *Consultant*, as we know it

I can understand the drive and enthusiasm of young people to get into what they see as an exciting and lucrative role, I just don't think most have any idea of what or how long is needed to develop the competence to operate effectively at this level.
