Hi All I generally do agree with what Mr. Deepak has to say. The Indian job market has varied preferences such as : a. young freshers whose services can be hired at low cost ( this is one school of thought ) b. Older people with knowledge and experience who may be expensive yet useful ( this is another school of thought ) However, if you have the grit, knowledge and experience and endurance then nothing is impossible. After about 25 years of experience in Internal Audit and Finance, I took voluntary retirement from services and I was around 50 then. Thereafter, I started self-learning SAP, got myself certified and am functioning as a faculty ( freelance trainer ) in SAP. I would call it resurrection. If it happened to me then it could happen to others too........ Mr.Venkat seems to have rich domain experience, maturity of age and business experience ( which would have made him conversant with related business processes ). Since he feels that his business is not doing well and seeks a change, he has to look for alternatives. That is definitely risk taking, at the age of 53. If he has to necessarily take a risk anyways, then I do not see anything wrong in taking up learning SAP SD. May be ....he might / might not get a job .....But that is not all.... He could earn a living teaching SAP .....imparting knowledge and making a living for himself too...... Teaching can also be considered a job........Who knows? He might even be able to do consulting with his domain experience coupled with SAP knowledge.. My suggestion to Mr.Venkat is: You are trying for a break and at your age thereby you, I think , are taking a risk....Everybody ( young and old ) take risks in life in this competitive world these days. If you have decided about taking a risk, then what is wrong in considering learning SAP as one such risk factor ( at least as an option )? You need to consider various options ( with their strengths and weaknesses ) before deciding on what you want to do. Learning SAP is an expensive affair in terms of cost, time and devotion. But if you hit the bull's eye, then....who knows ? May be you could start a new life with a bang! Wish you success in your endeavor. Never lose your confidence. Think YOU CAN and YOU WILL.
