Dear Viet Tran,

These numbers make sense, if you compare with other ERP systems, with all
other technologies as well as a whole. You are in sales field; you are the
best one to dig the numbers and compare with percentage. I am not against
for SAP or other ERP's. Just interested in finding the details.

SAP provides many modules, it make difficult to choose one for new bees.
Further, it seems not a great jobs opportunities for entry level and 2-3
years of SAP experience guys in the US. Mid level (4-7 years) experience
guys may be making little better compensation. I don't know it is worth
because it comes with every week travel and short term position. In
addition, small and medium size cities have very few SAP implementations.
Thus, it make difficult to find SAP jobs in these cities. Well experienced
guys might be making good compensation, still they need to travel, short
term, missing family (post by dddtate)?etc. Let us not worry about the
compensation any more. This may not true for countries like India.

My opinion is that ERP implementations will help the company save money and
increase the profits. Most of the implementations done in less than 2 years,
after that most of the SAP consultants leave and company keep SAP
consultants to minimum. Implementations are good for companies not for
employees? Since the population is growing, it should be other way around.

Thanks,

Subject: Evaluation of SAP career

Dear Manjaya :

It is refreshing to listen to the concern of the people that you describe as "all these new guys". On the other hand, your concern, if you should have one(s), is not answerable because it is inadequate to worry about something that is comparable to the concern of whether the sun will be coming up tomorrow?

Here is the fact that you should use for your basic understanding before you enter into any discussion or consideration:
SAP offers to you its products and services for the purpose of ERP.
SAP is only one of many other comparable companies in the market of the world.
SAP earns annual revenues of about US$12 Billions.
SAP can argue rightly that about over one hundred thousands companies, not users, are its customers and some of these companies have over one hundred thousands employees using SAP products daily to fulfill the demand of the market of the world.
SAP products are successfully used in most of the Fortune-500-Companies. (These companies are not born and land onto the prestigious list of Fortune-500-Companies. They are there because of their capabilities to fulfill the demands of the world market. And SAP from its parts to fulfill the demands of these Fortune-500-Companies.)
SAP experts are most of the ones who reach the highest margins in monetary compensation for the jobs on the market of IT.
Etc.

To paraphrase R.N. White in his response today to another requester on this forum: "The world out there is unkind and uncaring." (What happen (ed)s to you R.N. White?) And if the market, under this condition, is willing or must be willing to pay the high prices of SAP Products and Services, you can draw the ONLY conclusion about SAP for yourself. And then spend adequate amount of time and intelligence into your own research about other offerers on the market.

By then, assuming that you have done your job diligently, you must be able to verify your conclusion on its content above.

(By the way: SAP is not always my favorite in all cases in practice and for all purposes. I do hope that one day both you and I can come back to this hard fact of life: For or Against SAP and When and Why?)
