Hi Typewriter

Please permit me to appreciate you for your good intention to help others
who are fresh and new to the world of SAP.

A very good knowledge of all business processes is one important activity
one should know about while venturing into SAP. The other most important
activity would be the ability to efficiently translate the business
requirement into SAP by using the easy access screen in SAP ( end user
activity ) and configuring via the IMG screen all business requirements (
using standard SAP or using additional customization, at times). Good
Exposure to both the activities is of considerable help.

Many people ( am assuming here that they are well-versed with the business
process ) who learn SAP from institutes usually use a study material and
practice their exercises. This helps them get an exposure into how SAP
handles a particular business scenario. IDES helps in learning the same.
However, you could extend it further by tweaking a bit more and learning a
little more.

To cite an example, a student normally creates a company code but uses an
SAP pre-delivered operating chart of accounts called INT. The student does
not get a detailed opportunity to create a new G L master record from
scratch since he posts transactions based on pre-delivered G L accounts (
may be he will create one or two G L Accounts that too by copying from an
existing master record ).

The student could stretch out a little further and create another company
code and also create a chart of accounts right from scratch. This activity
could help him learn more about the concept of G L Master records, related
fields in it along with the functionality of each such field. This is a
typical example of doing further exploration using IDES to learn something
better.

The student could also get to know about the concept of creating a chart of
accounts into SAP from a legacy system using LSMW (Legacy system Migration
Workbech) which feature is not being currently taught in many schools. IDES
may not help here, in general. A real time hands on experience , usually
with the help of a mentor, in a work related scenario.

Therefore, there are

a. things that can be learnt from IDES using standard exercises
b. additional things that can be learnt from IDES using extra effort on the
part of the student
and c. things you learn in a real time scenario with mentor's help

Subject: IDES (SAP Demo system) experience only

Hi VidhyaDhar,

As you are a SAP instructor, how would you guide/design a IDES training course for some one who is new to SAP but has 5 to 7 years of domain experience? Any Dos and Don't w.r.t. training with IDES & during training, in general. The objective being to get maximum benefit from this "simulated & unreal" test system; that shall prepare them or help them for their future real-time job as functional consultants.

As many new entry candidates do not get jobs right away, what they have is access to IDES system.

Many thanks Experts, kindly help with advise, w.r.t. the above!

I have marked your (Thomas, VidhyaDhar) posts as helpful.

Regards,
Typewriter
