I agree with Roy B, the FICO module is different from others in that you need a strong accountancy and finance background so that when someone says I have posted a journal incorrectly that language is familiar to you as SAP FICO Consultant.

Without taking anything away from other specialists whose advice seems to suggest that you dont necessarily need the business knowledge in SAP, I have seen that such simplistic view of the SAP FICO module has resulted in many so-called consultants exposing themselves very badly in some projects.

I have answered this about one thousand times already but here we go again. You need real-time experience of accounting and finance gained over several years working at the coal face. You need a thorough understanding of all the business processes in accounting and controlling in as many different industries as possible, but especially manufacturing and process industries. You need to understand cost accounting, overhead controlling, working capital management, cash flows, balance sheets and profit and loss accounts etc., etc. In other words you need to be an expert across the whole broad spectrum of accountancy and finance, so that you can go into an accounts department and talk with everyone from an accounts clerk up to the finance director at their own level, to be able to understand their problems and find solutions for those problems in SAP. Until you can do that you cannot become an SAP FI-CO consultant.
