If it were me, I'd do several years as cross functional. You contract as
Basis but use your spare time to do ABAP projects for the same customer. As
long as they are please with your work, you can add it to your resume.
After several years, you can then contract as an ABAPer who also knows Basis
instead of the other way round.

I want to make a career shift move from Server and Network
administration to SAP ABAP. I have around 5 to 6 years of experience in this
field but i am very much interested in development instead of
administration.So can i make a move to SAP ABAP or I have to make a career
in SAP BASIS.
