Roy is absolutely right. Though the general trend in India is to look for
and employ certified professionals, it does not always have to be so. In
fact, I was a teaching SAP for nearly a year or so even before I got myself
SAP certified..

That statement is not true. You CAN work in SAP without certification. Maybe in India it is preferable to be certified but nowhere is it essential. Many top experts in the field are not certified.
