Reply from Viet_Tran on Jan 4 at 1:23 PM Wednesday, January 04, 2012 Dear n-kirankumar: You ask whether "Now, being 5+ years experience in mainframe is it a right choice to shift to a new technology." And then you name "other technologies like SAP, Cognos, Informatica" and conclude that these "other technologies like SAP, Cognos, Informatica" must be "yielding more than a mainframe guy." The crucial part of your thinking is not to engage in "new technology" but to search for a better source of income. If it so: Do you think about what you must have prepared yourself to adapt mentally to the "new technology" and how much, in term of monetary means and time, you must have paid until the time if ripe enough for you to harvest in "new technology"? In order for you to succeed, you must be in a position to assess yourself, personally and financially. Another point of concern is: On what basis do you conclude that SAP and the likes will "yielding more than a mainframe guy"? Are SAP and the like "new technology"? There is no acceptable indicator for this. SAP and the likes are simply application software for certain purposes. Make a few steps back; take a calm look at them, and asses your expert knowledge about what you call "new technology" and with a good hope you will find yourself in the picture. This determines your professional standing in your planning. Please come back for further discussion, if it is necessary. Regards, Viet Tran

But I am comfortable being on Finance. Now, being 5+ years experience in mainframe is it a right choice to shift to a new technology. I am interested in Mainframe but advancing in too many sub skills will fetch more wealth but comparatively, if we take any other technologies like SAP, Cognos, Informatica - they are yielding more than a mainframe guy. Please advise as which technology would suit for a mainframe guy above characteristics? Thanks, Kiran | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | In the Spotlight Become a blogger at Toolbox.com and share your expertise with the community. Start today. _.____.__ |
