for the prepapartion side what I have found useful is using some kind of digital dictation. It saves an awful lot of typing and can be done either on your PC or (anywhere if you have the gadged for it).
I presume you will work in English, but actually as far as I know the iPhones have an app even in my native language - so I am sure almost anybody can find theirs too. (sadly I don't know the name of the app)...
