RE:[sap-career] Training Module Recommendation for BE+MBA (Marketing)

I think this is the main problem here, Roy. People talk constantly of doing some training and then becoming a *Consultant*. To work effectively as a Consultant you need extensive knowledge and EXPERIENCE in the business processes and the relevant SAP configuration and transactions. You must have worked with the module in business to observe and experience the issues that arise and the methods of resolving those issue and also realise that every configuration and the way every business will use SAP differs according to the needs of that particular business and which modules of SAP it uses. Some use SAP for a single module, or start off doing so and then expand, some go into it full on with every module they might need. Some sales orgs purchase and sell, some manufacture and sell, some sell wholesale, some retail, some only nationally some internationally, and the modules they use for each part of the business will differ. To be a consultant someone should have a wide range of experience in those differing aspects of business, not a business degree and a few weeks of SAP training.

I do not believe there is anything wrong with someone doing a course in SAP and applying that to their business knowledge in order to operate as a user or even in a support role, and gradually building their knowledge, skills and experience, but no-one should expect to become a Consultant without several years of relevant experience. To do otherwise is like thinking you can learn to drive, and then do a course in motor mechanics, and then believe that you are qualified to advise people how to run a *business* in vehicle repair dealing with everything from a moped to an articulated lorry, without ever actually having either run a business or even repaired a car yourself.

Studying SAP can be a great way forward in your career, but it is a huge and complex system. A university degree or a few years experience in a related job and an SAP certificate doesn't qualify you, or make you even vaguely competent, to operate as an independent consultant – if you are lucky it might get you into one of the big consultancies where you can then work for several projects with people who really do know what they are talking about and from whom you can learn.

Subject: Training Module Recommendation for BE+MBA (Marketing)

Training module recommendations for BE+MBA (Marketing) with three years of exp. in sales.

I have completed my BE in Production Engineering and MBA in Marketing. After this I worked with Eureka Forbes as a Management Trainee with Franchisee Business Partner Channel where I did Institutional as well as Direct Sales. I was involved in the recruitment and training activity also. Currently I am working with a company as a Sales Manager which deals in capital goods.
