I will then speak to the opposite direction. If you have never seen SAP before and never configured software before, it would be a foolish move to take very expensive training that will only prepare you to configure the software.
3 years of hands on end user skills would give you a reasonable feel for the navigation of SAP in your chosen field. It would also better allow you to determine if SAP was right for you.
