You can go for training at any time, and having been trained will help you to get the job with a company that is using SAP, or even better, one that is about to implement the system. Being involved as a company is putting SAP in place and first starting to use it gives you an invaluable insight into the processes and the problems that occur.

Then when you are in the job and using SAP you will gain practical experience that will put at least some of the theory and techniques you have learned into practice. How much you will learn will depend on how the company is using SAP, so the fuller the implementation and the bigger the company the wider experience you can get, but be prepared that they might also have had much customization that won't necessarily apply in other companies. A company that uses a range of SAP modules will also have experienced users, support staff, or even consultants, either in-house or on contract, who will be able to help you while you are learning.

When you might be ready to move on depends on your role and the support and development you are given, and on your own enthusiasm and determination to succeed, but I would advise you to expect at least 3 years and much additional learning before you are ready to apply for a Consultant post.

Training module recommendations for BE+MBA (Marketing) with three years of exp. in sales.

I have completed my BE in Production Engineering and MBA in Marketing. After this I worked with Eureka Forbes as a Management Trainee with Franchisee Business Partner Channel where I did Institutional as well as Direct Sales. I was involved in the recruitment and training activity also. Currently I am working with a company as a Sales Manager which deals in capital goods.
