RE:[sap-career] Training Module Recommendations Based on Marketing Experience

Hi Savitha,

I would start by getting a couple of books on aspects of SAP, perhaps something like Discover SAP and Discover SAP CRM from SAP Press. They will give you a good overview of the processes and language of SAP and where your skills will fit in. The IT side e.g. navigation is really quite simple when you know those principles. It will also make whatever course you undertake to get your qualification easier to follow so that you can concentrate on learning the important things. Don't worry if not everything makes sense, make notes so that you can ask questions when you start your course; much of it might become clearer then too.

When you get your qualification, or are getting near to finishing your studies, start looking for job adverts online and perhaps register with agencies that place people in SAP posts (I don't know what the situation is where you are, in the UK the agency doesn't charge the applicant they charge the employer for their services) You might find a company that has been using SAP for some modules but is now expanding to use CRM, or it might be one doing a new implementation and recruiting people to work in differing modules. It might be as an end user, doing much the same job as you are now but using SAP as the software to record and direct your contacts - in which case when you first start you won't earn a lot more than you are now but will gain experience in using SAP. Take every opportunity to expand your knowledge of SAP - keep studying, take more qualifications, talk to and ask to work with experienced people and especially to consultants whenever you can - and you may soon become recognized as a super-user, able to give support to other users, and then to move into a supervisory role, and eventually a dedicated support role, and then perhaps to consultancy. It takes patience, hard work, and both enthusiasm and determination - there are always the frustrating times when you want things to move faster - but SAP is definitely a move forward in your career and it can lead to great things.

From your request for information on these forums you are already looking in the right places and I wish you all the best in your efforts to move on and upwards.

Subject: Training Module Recommendations Based on Marketing Experience

I have completed BE. I have 4 years of experience in marketing. My skills: Email Marketing, Lead Nurturing, Market Research, Lead Management, Campaign Management, fixing appointments for sales people, cold calling, developing business.

Would it best for me to get trained om SAP CRM Marketing or SAP SD? Which will suit my profile better?

Please reply.

Thanks,
savitha
