Hi Mr. Vidhya Dhar, Thank you very much for your reply. I found your post extremely useful. I want to make it clear that I neither have much passion for teaching nor I intend to become a SAP Trainer in long run. I only wanted to use the teaching experience as a stop gap arrangement and a just a first stepping stone towards my ultimate goal of becoming SAP consultant. Please clarify if this is a proper route to take or not. As far as the end-user job is concerned, I have been advised by may people that I don't have any good option, then I should start off as a SAP end-user, build good rapport with the seniors along with good job performance and in due course of time migrate to SAP consulting with-in the same company with-in 1 or 2 years and eventually start the intended path as a SAP consultant. I don't know how far this is practical. Please also throw some light on this issue. Looking forward to your reply. Based on the feedback of like-minded people (including you), I may probably take my final decision. Thanks a lot in advance. Regards--- Debashish

Many employers in India either ignore a candidate or underpay him / her when the candidate is not a certified professional. I do agree with your views with regard to many private and unauthorized SAP institutes taking students (and also the trainer) for a ride. As regards to your career, I think you have to give serious thought to what you want to be. Teaching is one kind of profession whereas consultancy, implementation and support (whether you work for under the payroll of some organization or work independently) is another and different one. Skills and experience required for being a teacher are different from those required for consultancy and support. Teaching requires good and simple communication skill , some student psychology and good knowledge of the subject. Moreover, teaching requires an innate passion to teach. Consultancy is a vaster arena where you need to be up to date, ready to work long hours, be open and with a receptive mind to listen and learn, smart enough to offer effective and timely solutions in real time apart from having good communication skill and work psychology. You need to consider your passion and strengths before deciding which way to go. It is a wise idea to decide beforehand what you want to be and work toward it. Consultancy and implementation requires a lot of domain experience ( In India, a certification is also an added advantage ). I am not discouraging you, but no one dies of thinking in realistic terms.......Agreed ? Do you have the required experience? If not, then try to gain it. I do not think immediate implementation experience comes out of the blue to most of us. We have to work from scratch, maybe even as end users and learn the tricks of the trade, the hard way. A private tuition, for a limited period, I am afraid, may not be adequate to fathom the real time knowledge, skill and expertise that one needs before getting into consultancy. I hope you agree with me. I am not saying that learning does not breed expertise. Am just stressing on the importance of the duration of experience and exposure to practical scenarios which are essential to transform one into a skilled consultant. Such expertise can be achieved in course of time with hard work and dedication. One may even have to consider starting at the bottom rung as an end user and work his / her way up in becoming a mature consultant. There may be compromises to be made in the process in terms of money, hard work and so on. I suggest that you consider all parameters before deciding what you want to be. Absolute dedication always wins laurels, sooner or later, no matter which realm you pursue. I wish you success in your endeavor.
